Mushroom Fields Forever

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of creating a number 1 cake with matching cookies and  cupcakes.

The invitation for the party was a ‘mushroom fields’ theme from a site called Party Divas.  The birthday girl’s mum had seen the starry 1 cake I had done previously so we went with a similar idea.

I was really happy with how this cake turned out.  And I really love the red colour scheme!

The cake was a vanilla cake with a strawberry mousse filling and white chocolate ganache. I made the bee and the mushroom to match the invite.

The matching cupcakes were vanilla with a white chocolate ganache and the cookie pops were a vanilla biscuit.

A Princesses 4th Birthday

This past week I had the opportunity to let my creative juices flow and create a birthday cake for a special 4 year old (my cousin’s daughter).

The invitation to the party was of a fairy princess so I used that as inspiration.

As two of my three children love princesses at the moment, I went with the whole theme and created a very girly cake.  I was very happy with the end result and had so much fun making all the figurines.

The cake was chocolate with dark chocolate ganache.  The cake was quite fudgy as I used a different chocolate as one of the attendees at the party had a nut allergy.  All in all, I still think it tasted good.

One of the hardest parts to this cake was the frog – took me a while to get the hind legs right!

Engagement Hearts

A couple of weeks ago, I completed my first engagement cake.

It wasn’t an extravagant cake by any means but it was still challenging to complete.  It was the first time I had wired hearts and it was difficult finding the right place for them.

In the end, it turned out well.

The cake was chocolate with dark chocolate ganache.  The only requirement was yellow icing and purple hearts.

An Owl Christening Cake

Over the weekend, we celebrated our third daughter’s christening.

The invitations featured an owl and birdy sitting on a branch so I wanted to replicate that for the cake topper.

The bottom layer was chocolate mud with chocolate ganache and the top layer was white chocolate and strawberry with chocolate ganache.

It was my favourite cake to do (for sentimental reasons).  It turned out great and the day itself was fantastic.

The good thing with this cake is that little changes can be made to suit any occasion.

Another “Popping” Baby Shower

A couple of weeks ago, I baked a cake for a baby shower.  The theme of the day was “She’s about to pop.”  I decided to try out a new cake look – a tall, skinny cake (it was actually three small cakes stacked one on top of the other.

The colour scheme for the day was blue, green, pink and purple and these colours became the colours of my bubbles.  I also made the little yellow ducky on top and bought the little plastic balloons on top.

The cake was a chocolate mud cake with chocolate ganache.

I also made the matching cookies on sticks to look like lollyPOPS.

60th Birthday Golf Cake

Over the weekend, I baked and decorated another golf themed birthday cake for a 60th birthday.

My intention was to create a golf ball but as things don’t go to plan at times I had to improvise.  So I came up with two cakes – a golf ball in the grass and a cake with golfer/golf bag.

I was very happy with the end result and got great feedback from the guests.

All elements are edible and the writing on the ball was all cut out by hand!

Starry Cake

Here is the number 1 cake I made to go with the star cookies.  I also made the monkey topper and banana.
