An Owl Christening Cake

Over the weekend, we celebrated our third daughter’s christening.

The invitations featured an owl and birdy sitting on a branch so I wanted to replicate that for the cake topper.

The bottom layer was chocolate mud with chocolate ganache and the top layer was white chocolate and strawberry with chocolate ganache.

It was my favourite cake to do (for sentimental reasons). It turned out great and the day itself was fantastic.

The good thing with this cake is that little changes can be made to suit any occasion.

Another “Popping” Baby Shower

A couple of weeks ago, I baked a cake for a baby shower. The theme of the day was “She’s about to pop.” I decided to try out a new cake look – a tall, skinny cake (it was actually three small cakes stacked one on top of the other.

The colour scheme for the day was blue, green, pink and purple and these colours became the colours of my bubbles. I also made the little yellow ducky on top and bought the little plastic balloons on top.

The cake was a chocolate mud cake with chocolate ganache.

I also made the matching cookies on sticks to look like lollyPOPS.

60th Birthday Golf Cake

Over the weekend, I baked and decorated another golf themed birthday cake for a 60th birthday.

My intention was to create a golf ball but as things don’t go to plan at times I had to improvise. So I came up with two cakes – a golf ball in the grass and a cake with golfer/golf bag.

I was very happy with the end result and got great feedback from the guests.

All elements are edible and the writing on the ball was all cut out by hand!

I had a really fun time making the following cake and biscuits for my cousin’s daughter’s first birthday.

The invitations my cousin used were absolutely gorgeous so I used this as my base.

I completed some poka dot themed biscuits for a 1st birthday recently.

The birthday girl’s mother chose a really fun colour scheme that worked really well together.

Santa’s Little Helpers

So it is coming up to silly season and despite having had a big week of baking I decided to do some more baking and experiment for Christmas.

First project: Santa’s Elves. These are on biscuits and would be cute on cupcakes too!

Classic Wedding Cake

I completed my first wedding cake!

I was asked months ago to do the wedding cake for my brother in law’s wedding. At the time, I was pregnant and knew I would have a newborn when it came time to do it, but me being me I didn’t hesitate in saying yes.

I researched and practiced and practiced and tried new techniques (stencilling for the middle layer). The ribbons and diamantes on each layer tied in with the invitation.

Anyway, baby and all, I got through it and was very happy with the result. What do you think?

Kitchen Tea Assortment

I completed an order of cupcakes for a kitchen tea over the weekend. I got to do a mixture of cupcakes and was able to enjoy experimenting.

This was a mini size cupcake. It was a strawberry vanilla cake with cream cheese frosting and a strawberry to top it off.

This mini size cupcake was double chocolate flavoured with chocolate frosting. The decorations were little pink cachous and a choc chip on top.

Tiger cupcakes – special request. One each for the bride and groom to be.

New cupcake/cookie toppers

The girls wanted to play with some icing today so I thought I’d take the opportunity to play with icing as well and experiment with some new cupcake/cookie toppers.

I’m happy with the progress so far. Sorry again about the lighting – but hopefully you get the idea and once I perfect the design, I will post some better pics.

Pea in a pod. The baby can be any colour. Would also be cute for twins with two peas!

Bunch of roses – red, pink and purple. I need to work on my stem/leaf technique. I was rushing by this point as the girls were getting hungry!

These were my favourite to do – a piece of cake, a teapot and cup/saucer (which needs work). You can’t see it here but the cake was a layer cake – with a pink stripe through the middle and a little rose on top. The bottom picture I experimented with stripes and laid out high tea on a stripey picnic blanket! Can’t wait to try these out on cupcakes/cookies!
